Lisa's Deep Impasto® Technique

The word 'impasto' is Italian in origin; meaning 'dough' or 'mixture'. It is well known in the art world as a technique where paint is applied in very thick layers, and the brush, or painting knife strokes are visible. When dried, the textured paint has a sculptured, 3D appearance, and is highly tactile.
Lisa's technique takes on an even deeper texture, with paint rolling over the edges of the canvas. In some places it is over a half an inch thick. This creates amazing ridges, dips, and shadows, and a beautiful sense of movement that reflects the light more than a regular brush painting. It is also tremendous amounts of fun manipulating large, buttery quantities of oil paint. Think cake decorating, or frosting! In fact, some of the knives Lisa uses are culinary grade baking knives!
